What is the difference between having something tailored and altering a piece, or pieces?
Tailoring refers to creating a garment that is custom-fitted for and to the wearer and their unique body shape & size. Of course, since the garment is custom-fit, it looks really, really good on the person for whom it was tailored. Tailoring can be a custom fit for an item that has been purchased in a store, or a piece that the wearer has had created specifically for him or her. Alterations are less extensive (and less expensive) changes to the garment that also change the way the garment fits, and are usually focused on one particular fit area. It could be as simple as taking up the hem on a pair of pants or shortening a sleeve.
Tailoring is usually more costly than having alterations done, but is absolutely worth it because of the huge difference it makes in the look and fit of your clothes, which ultimately makes a difference in how you feel about your look... or your whole day!!

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
Pricing for alterations is as listed below, and includes the cost of the INITIAL FITTING, as well as a FINAL FITTING.
BRIDAL GOWN alterations will normally add at least $300 to $600 to the cost of the dress, so before you say "YES" to that dress, make sure you have included at least that much in your budget!
All pricing listed herein is a starting place, and does not include adjustments for things like expediting a job, working with silks, beading or sequined fabrics, or any other "out of the ordinary" requests or needs
There is an initial cost of $25 to book your fitting, which is applied to the final total for your project, ultimately making your initial fitting or consultation FREE.
Any additional fittings, for example in the case that you would change your mind about your wants or needs once work has begun, would be subject to an additional fee.
Additional fitting fees start at $25 per.
Standard alterations (pant or dress/skirt hem, waist darts, etc) should not require more than one fitting. More elaborate alterations (all bridal, ie. any bodice work or redesigns, suit jacket tailoring, etc)
Any project with a cost over $200 requires a non-refundable deposit of 50% (of the total amount of the job proposal) to be remitted BEFORE work will commenced. The balance is due upon receipt of completed project and/or a ready to wear garment.
Fees for service are payable by CASH, CHECK (upon approval) or VENMO.
CUSTOM DESIGNED PIECES ARE PRICED ACCORDING TO THE ENTIRETY OF THE PROJECT.
All costs take into consideration variables like quality of original garment and it’s materials (for alterations), and the quality of selections and specifications put forth and made by the client (for custom garments).
Mildred and any affiliates are not responsible for the poor construction put forth or cut rate fabrics/materials used by any clothing brand that crosses the sewing table.
